There’s no better time to start something in your community and help put a child on the right track. Get started today.  Be sure to sign up using your college email address and ZIP for campus housing!

Big Brothers Big Sisters is currently recruiting mentors from the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, La Salle University, University of the Sciences, Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia University, Ursinus College, Rutgers University, and Rowan University to be matched to students at local elementary schools in spring 2017.

This flexible program asks minimal commitment from you – just one hour per week.  The program runs from late September until the end of May.  Visit your Little at school once a week during their lunchtime or after school – while you’re there you can eat lunch together, talk, play games – whatever is fun!  We work with your class schedule to find a time that works for you.  All schools are within walking distance of your campus, or a short bus or subway ride away (we even provide the SEPTA tokens!).

Those weekly visits DO make an impact: Littles in our site-based programs show improvement in academic performance, are less likely to skip school and feel they will be more likely to attend and finish college. What an impact!

Learn more about each program below, and click on the school name for volunteer specifics.

  • La Salle University
    Partner School: Logan Elementary School
    Program Goal: 60 mentoring matches
Fun Facts: The La Salle Big Brothers Big Sisters program is an initiative of Project TeamWork through the La Salle Athletics Department. There are a lot of student athletes involved as Bigs, although the program is open to the entire La Salle community. The La Salle Athletics Department helps with volunteer recruitment and provides free tickets to sporting events for the agency’s Community Based matches.
  • University of the Sciences
Partner Schools: Mitchell Elementary School and Comgeys Elementary School
    Program Goal: 45 mentoring matches
Fun Fact: This is our newest college partner, starting in the fall of 2013!

  • Philadelphia University
    Partner School: Mifflin Elementary School
    Program Goal: 30 mentoring matches
Fun Facts: Philadelphia U’s program started off with just a few matches at Mifflin Elementary school and has since grown in size because of its popularity. Mifflin Elementary is located within walking distance of Phila U’s campus and the school loves having a connection to the nearby University!
  • Ursinus College
    Partner School: Barkley Elementary School
    Program Goal: 20 mentoring matches
Fun Fact: Ursinus is our only current College Bigs program in the PA suburbs!
  • Rutgers University – Camden

    Program Goal: 30 mentoring matches
Fun Fact: The Rutgers Big Brothers Big Sisters program took a break last year due to the merger between BBBS of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester Counties and BBBS Southeastern PA. This year, we plan to have a strong program with 30 Bigs visiting their Littles at Cooper’s Poynt School during lunch! Volunteering as a Big in the BBBS Rutgers-Camden program counts as a Campus Commitment with the Rutgers Honors College!
  • Rowan University
    Partner School:
GAPA after school program at Bullock Elementary School
    Program Goal: 30 mentoring matches
    Fun Fact:
The program at Rowan University was started around 2008 and partners with the Office of Volunteerism, Community Engagement and Commuter Services at Rowan. Bigs in this program visit their Littles after school, and some of the Littles are bused to Bullock so they may actually go to different schools in the area.

We’re conducting interviews on campus NOW so you will be ready to be matched this fall.
